Shailendra Thakali is a key founder of the Chandra Gurung Conservation Foundation, a sister organization to the CGCT in Nepal. As have many of the CGCF members, Shailendra worked with Dr. Chandra Gurung for many years and considered Chandra a vital mentor and close friend. He is also well known and respected by CGCT members.

Shailendra is originally from Jomson, in the upper Kali Gandaki Valley of the Annapurna region of Nepal. His professional career has spanned 17 years (13 in senior management) working with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams in the field of integrated conservation and development. He has worked at the national, regional and international level, has managed a number of projects and programmes, and has served as an expert consultant in community based tourism, community-based conservation, sustainable development, and poverty and livelihood issues. Shailendra has traveled extensively in Nepal as well on all continents. He holds a masters degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, an undergraduate degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism from the Lincoln University, New Zealand, and is embarking on a PhD program in New Zealand in early 2008.
