The last ten years of unrest in Nepal have sapped government funding and distracted community concern for nature conservation and wildlife protection. Poaching is on rise, especially for critically endangered species such as the One Horned Rhinoceros, the Royal Bengal Tiger, and the Asian Elephant. More than ever, Nepal needs our help in protecting its precious natural heritage and raising a new generation of dedicated conservationists.

The vision of the CGCT is to create a Conservation Trust Fund in Chandra’s name. This fund will ensure that the CGCT will be financially self-sustaining, and that his legacy will endure and continue to be a positive force for change in the Himalaya. The interest generated from the fund will be used to:

  • endow a director position for the CGCT in Nepal.
  • contribute to a scholarship and field-based internships in community-based conservation for promising Nepali youth.
  • contribute to the establishment of a conservation education program in Nepal.
  • support field-based internships in community-based conservation for promising Nepali youth.
  • support village-level educational, community development and environmental projects that embody Chandra's spirit.

Our target of US$250,000 will provide annual operating expenses of approximately US$15,000 (based on a 6%) return on investment.
